They can’t be put into normal recycling and go straight into landfill. This has left many people searching for a solution so they can enjoy guilt-free coffee. What are reusable coffee pods?
Reusable coffee pods are stainless steel capsules that you can use again and again to make delicious, guilt-free coffee. They have a removable lid so you can fill them up and then rinse when you’ve finished to use again next time.

In Australia around 3 billion coffee pods end up in landfill every year. They take hundreds of years to decompose. The average person drinks 3 cups of coffee a day… that’s 1095 cups of coffee a year. Over 70 years this ends up being 76,650 cups… one heck of a lot of landfill! How do reusable coffee pods work?
Simply remove the lid, fill up with ground coffee, put the lid back on and put the pod in your coffee machine. Remove once your coffee is made (let it cool down a bit first or you’ll burn your fingers), shake the coffee dregs out, give it a rinse and voila; it’s ready to use again for your next cup.

If you are in Australia then we recommend buying a reusable coffee pod for your ALDI Expressi Machine from our favourite Amazon Seller below. This is currently the cheapest pod we’ve found and it works a treat. It comes with a plastic scoop to measure your coffee and press it down with, so there’s no need for a separate press. It also comes with a brush for cleaning.

How long will my ALDI reusable coffee pod take to arrive?
We are based in Perth and our pod took a week and a half to arrive in the post after purchasing from this particular seller on Amazon.
Are reusable coffee pods more expensive?
Nope! Once you’ve paid for the reusable pod itself, every cup of coffee you make can actually work out cheaper. If you buy ALDI Lazzio ground coffee in 500g bags for $8.49 like us then your average cost per cup of coffee is just 13 cents compared to 44 cents for an Expressi pod. (This is assuming you use 7.75 grams of coffee in your reusable pod which is the same amount that’s in the Expressi capsules). Come on Aldi shoppers, we all love a good bargain!
What type of coffee can I put in my ALDI reusable coffee pod?
Any type you like! As long as it’s ground coffee then you can experiment with different blends and flavours until you find your One True Love. Move over Expressi range!
How many reusable pods should I buy?
If there’s just you then obviously you only need one. But if you make one or more cups of coffee at a time for other people then you might want to consider buying more. This is because the pod is super hot after the hot water has gone through it and you can burn your fingers taking it out to make the next coffee before it’s had a chance to cool down in the drawer.
Is there a recycling program for ALDI Expressi capsules in Australia?
Unfortunately there isn’t. There used to be, but this reached full capacity and ALDI no longer offers this service.
Can I get biodegrable coffee pods for my ALDI Expressi Coffee Machine?
You can. As long as the biodegradable pods fit the K-Fee Coffee Machine System they will be compatible with your ALDI Expressi Coffee Machine. They do tend to be more expensive however, which isn’t practical if you like to live frugally as most of us ALDI shoppers do. The solution to this conundrum then is to buy a reusable coffee pod.

After purchasing our ALDI coffee machine we felt guilty every time we emptied the drawer out into our bin. We spent several hours searching online for the best solution and wanted to share this to help others do the same.
